Capitol Limited 2004 Contest Information 

  • Contest voting was by popular vote

  • Conventioneers voted for all categories, one vote for each category

  • Entry forms were available at the registration table and in the contest room

  • Voting ballots were available in the contest room Saturday starting at noon

  • In addition to your vote, the train show public was allowed to vote for best module in the three module categories on Saturday (10am to 4pm)

  • Voting ballot boxes were located in the contest room and at the Capitol Limited information table at the company store in the Expo Center

  • Modules were located in the Expo Center and the Holiday Inn lobby

  • All other contest entries were in the contest room

  • Contest room was located in the Holiday Inn by the clinic rooms

Contest Winners and Categories Were

There were 108 model entries, 40 module entries, and 16 photo entries, for a total of 164 entries, including two ties!

Awards 

  • Plaques were awarded for first place in all categories, ribbons were awarded for second and third place

  • Awards were presented during the manufacturers breakfast on Sunday morning, 8-10am in the Expo Center North building

  • Attendees had fun, entered a healthy, heaping helping of entries, and voted!!

Contest Room Hours Were

Friday  8am – 5pm Open for Entries
Saturday  8am – Noon Open for Entries (enter modules Friday)
Saturday  Noon – 5pm Popular Voting
Sunday  10:30am – 3pm Pick Up Entries

 Rules

      Model

  • All scales were combined in the various categories. There were no divisions of category based on the scale of the model.

  • There were no restrictions on the number of models entered by a single entrant.

  • Only models, or portions thereof, which were the product of the owner/builder, could be entered in the contest (with the exception of favorite train category)

Steam Locomotives - Types of locomotives representative of steam power. 

Diesel Locomotives & Others - All locomotives except steam types and passenger revenue carrying types. 

Passenger Cars - All types of passenger revenue carrying equipment, including RDC, rail buses, observation, mail and baggage.

Freight Cars - All types of freight revenue carrying, including express reefers.

Cabooses - All types, including bobbers, drovers, transfers, etc.

Non-Revenue - Right of way and track maintenance vehicles, rail and inspection cars, railroad cranes and others not considered directly involved in revenue service.

Structures On-Line and Off-Line - On Line structures are considered to be those normally owned by the railroad, or having rail loading/unloading facilities on the right of way. Off-Line structures are those not needing direct rail access.

Displays/Dioramas - include supplemental scenery not pertinent to the function of the model or primary structure.

Favorite Train - Assemble your favorite train and see what others think. 

      Photography

  • Prints were mounted on flat, rigid board or matted with similar material - no folders or glass frames were allowed. Photos and mounts did not exceed 12" x 16" in size. Minimum mount size was 8" x 10" and minimum print size was 5" x 7".

  • Each entrant could submit up to five (5) entries total with a maximum of three (3) entries in one category.

  • Prints had to have the entrant's name on the back. Prints could be titled on the front. Prints with the entrant's name on the front were not accepted.

  • Exposure of the original negative must have been made by the entrant.

  • Computer enhanced photos were not allowed.
