On the third Sunday of every month,
Northern Virginia NTRAK operates a layout at Fairfax
Station, Virginia.Hours of operation are 1 - 4 PM.
Fairfax
station is a fully restored railroad station. It was moved from its original site
along the railroad right-of-way. It now houses a museum and is available for
various functions. Northern Virginia NTRAK sets up operating layouts on the third
Sunday of every month, in addition to special train shows.
The
caboose has been restored and is the home of our caboose layout.
The
caboose layout is a special project of Northern Virginia NTRAK. It represents the
Southern Railway (now a part of Norfolk Southern) passing through Fairfax and Manassas.
This picture shows the layout under construction. The track is laid and
weathered and ready for ballasting. The structures are about half there, and the
landscaping is in progress as well. The layout measures 8 1/2 feet by 3 feet, and
can connect to standard NTRAK modules on the west end, forming a return loop.
