Description
by Bernie Kempinski
Maxey's Farm is a new oNeTRAK corner module. With dimensions
of 3x3 feet with an 12 inch wide mating face, it is
basically half of a standard NTRAK 3 foot corner module. This
design allows room for a generous 18 inch minimum radius with
easements. There was also room for a turn out to a single
siding. The Peco track with power routing switches sits on N
Scale cork roadbed. The curve is super elevated with 0.020
inch styrene strips.
The frame is 1x4 lumber. The top surface is 0.25 inch plywood
with several areas removed to create areas below track level.
Styrofoam covered with Sculptamold and water putty formed the
basic terrain shapes.
The scenery depicts a typical rolling country farm scene that
one may find in many areas from Pennsylvania all the way to
Minnesota. The highlight of the module is an Alkem Scale
Models cornfield. Six packs of N Scale corn comprise this
large field. The barn is a laser cut kit from Model Expo. A
GHQ log loader works the pile of miniature pulp wood. The logs
are small sections of azalea twigs and witches broom while
glued in place. Scenic Express Super-Trees served as the base
for most of the trees. The culvert came from a California
freight offering. The horizon backdrop is a scanned
photo with the sky removed, printed on panoramic paper and
then rubber cemented to 0.060 styrene.
